WENTZ GROUP COMPLETES CONSTRUCTION OF
204,000-SQUARE-FOOT CORPORATE OFFICE BUILDING
$14.7-million facility delivered on time at a 5% cost savings
IRVINE, CA -- (March 28, 2002). Wentz Group, a leading California-based
general contractor for 28 years, recently completed a $14.7-million contract for Crown
Realty and Development Corporation for the construction of the new Wateridge II office
building. Located in Los Angeles at 5140 – 5150 Goldleaf Circle, construction began
on Wateridge II in November 2000.
"We selected Wentz Group because they were able to provide
estimating, pre-construction services and value engineering alternatives, while
maintaining our bottom line. Their cost saving suggestions for the design of the building
resulted in a 5% savings below budget," explained Roderick MacDonald, owner
representative for Crown Realty and Development Corporation. "Wentz Group did an
incredible job of thoroughly soliciting sub bids from many subcontractors, while keeping
an eye on our budget. The entire team at Wentz Group, from the estimator to the project
manager to the superintendent, did an incredible job and completed the project on
time."
Designed by Nadel Architects, Inc., the modern 204,000-square-foot
corporate office building is well articulated with spectacular panoramic views stretching
from the Santa Monica Bay to Los Angeles. The five-story office building was constructed
of a structural steel frame and EIFS / Plaster and semi-reflective blue glass exterior
walls. Two flourishing atriums grace the polished marble lobby of Wateridge II. The walls
are adorned with steamed beech wood. The floor is patterned in custom-colored concrete and
each level is garlanded with a glass balcony.
Wateridge II has an enchanting park-like campus with a
25,000-square-foot outdoor amphitheater, which seats 30 people. The three-tiered
amphitheater is blanketed with a lighted trellis. In addition, the property has a tranquil
pond with a trickling water feature, two putting greens, a built-in barbecue, two relaxing
hammocks and three outdoor computer data stations.
"This was a very unique project with its horseshoe-shaped
(design?). It was interesting to build, because it sits on a step foundation," said
Andrew Raufi, project manager for Wentz Group. "The schedule was a little challenging
since the project needed to be completed within 13 months, but we did it. We’re very
pleased with the results and so is the owner."
