WENTZ
GROUP COMPLETES CONSTRUCTION OF
CYPRESS SEMICONDUCTOR’S NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS
The new corporate headquarters was delivered on time and on budget
SAN CARLOS, CA -- (May 31, 2002). Wentz Group, a leading
California-based general contractor for 28 years, recently completed a contract for
Cypress Semiconductor for the design/build construction of Building Six, which will serve
as the firm’s new corporate headquarters. Located in San Jose at 198 Champion Court,
construction began in April 2001 and was completed this month.
Designed by Ware Malcomb, the three-story, 111,000-square-foot
headquarters was constructed of steel-frame with GFRC pre-cast panels and an
energy-efficient glazing system. This project was designed as an "essential
facility" since Building Six will serve as their corporate headquarters. Criteria for
the design build project include upgraded structural, mechanical and electrical systems.
The interior features numerous state-of-the-art amenities including an
11,300-square-foot auditorium built to accommodate 1,600 people. It has custom partition
walls designed to section the room into four separate meeting spaces. Additionally, the
auditorium has a 400-square-foot stage and a rear-projection screen. A 300-square-foot
control booth manages all of the audio/visual technology, lighting and sunshade controls
for the auditorium.
A 5,000-square-foot cafeteria has a full kitchen including a pizza
oven, salad bar and custom-cook area. The kitchen area will serve 1,500 meals per day and
provide catering services for the entire campus. It also features an espresso bar and
vending area. The building additionally contains health and beauty amenities such as a
hair salon, massage therapy center and a fitness center with an aerobic area, free weights
and shower facilities.
Decorated in neutral colors with mahogany accents, the second and third
floors contain 22 private offices, 150 cubicle office spaces, 5 R&D labs, 26
conference rooms and the main boardroom. The boardroom is fully wired for audio/visual
technology and has a rear-projection screen with acoustical walls and ceilings. The room
contains a large boardroom table and fixed seating with IT ports for 67 people.
"The high level of owner involvement made this project unique and
fun," said Bracken Richardson, vice president, operations for Wentz Group. "We
were working with a fixed budget and schedule. The project schedule was impacted by a
number of issues, not the least of which where delays in receiving our building permit.
However, with the hands-on approach by the client and ourselves we were able to overcome
the delays and a portion of Cypress Semiconductor’s sales staff was actually able to
occupy the building ahead of schedule."
