WENTZ
GROUP IS AWARDED CONSTRUCTION OF
PASADENA COLLECTION
Construction to start on a $8.5-million office and retail building in
Pasadena
IRVINE, CA—(June 28, 2002). Wentz Group, a leading
California-based general contractor for 28 years, has been awarded a $8.5-million contract
by Champion Development to construct Pasadena Collection in Pasadena. Construction of the
new office and retail building, located at 175 South Lake Avenue, will begin in July and
completion is slated for July 2003.
"We selected Wentz Group as the general contractor because of
their expertise in value engineering and scheduling. We’re confident that they will
work diligently to maximize the value of the project," said Robert Champion,
president of Champion Development.
Designed by Nadel Architects, Inc., this contemporary compatible
building with its’ refined detailing is reminiscent of Pasadena’s historic
architectural heritage. The 4-story, 70,696 square-foot structural steel building will be
comprised of 52,000 square-feet of office space and 17,000 square-feet of retail space
accommodating up to 9 retail tenants. In addition, the building will have a three-level
subterranean parking structure. The upper portion of the building exterior will be
constructed of integrally colored steel-troweled plaster. The base of the building will be
accented with columns clad in smooth-honed limestone, and a black granite base. The clear
insulated storefront windows of this retail base will be capped by a series of custom
retail canopies projecting out over the sidewalk. The upper floors will feature blue-green
windows, which have a dramatic outward-sloped design to visually anchor the building along
Lake Street and substantiate the retail fabric of the area.
The modern designed lobby includes two stone-embellished elevators.
Polished rocheret blue and Jerusalem gold limestone with black granite accents will cover
the floors. The walls will be finished in artistic Venetian plaster with illuminated glass
accent panels. Decorative neon lighting will accent and highlight the articulated drywall
ceiling above.
"Working collaboratively with the architect, our value engineering
efforts have resulted in a savings of approximately 10% for the owner," said Brian
Parno, vice president of Southern California for Wentz Group. "We’re looking
forward to working in Pasadena and managing the challenges of a very tight site with
logistical space issues."
